Rangoon - 9/26/07

If you’re not following the Burmese protests, you should be. It brings stark relief between the best and worst powers of humanity.

They found me again!

September 17th, 2007 by Kyle

Is it possible that KU’s Alumni Association is tapped into the the FBI’s dometic spying ring? Once again they’ve tracked down my address without me giving it to them or anyone related to them.

I’m never crossing them, I might end up at the bottom of Clinton lake with a new pair of cement running shoes.

chicky on a sticky!

September 11th, 2007 by Kyle

Shaving another three months off the backend of my life, today’s diet consisted of a reheated breakfast burrito, bourbon chicken on a stick, frozen banana on a stick, and cheesecake on a stick.

Is there any doubt what I did today?

Special note for the uninformed: Yes, Katie was there too.

Most. Absurd. Law. Ever.

From where else? Venezuela.

The measure…would limit parents to a list of 100 names established by the government, with exemptions for Indian tribes and foreigners

Can you imagine an entire country where everyone has one of only 100 names? That would be so freaking boring.

Also is there any possible government effort more wasteful than worrying about your citizens having silly names?

Am I the only one who reads Cicero anymore?

I now take a momentary break from being adorably romantic on this website to be adorably romantic in real life. So to balance my zen while I’m enjoying a long weekend away, I don the flame suit and burn you virtual world, politico-style.

Housing: Bush Rides to the Rescue, Sort Of

Total crap.

As the proud owner of a stuffy old conventional 20-year mortgage with the un-sexy interest rate of 6.125%, I’m entitled to grievances.

“It’s not the government’s job to bail out speculators, or those who made the decision to buy a home they knew they could never afford.” Bush said.

…and yet you’re going to do it anyway. This must be that modern political speech I hear so much about; like, “I’m a uniter, not a divider.” or “We don’t torture.”

The way the tax code works now, if you fall behind on a $300,000 loan, and your lender agrees to cut the amount you owe to $250,000, the $50,000 you saved is treated as income, and you have to pay tax on it. Bush wants to waive that tax liability temporarily.

As it freaking should be, you were given $300K now you only have to pay back $250K, how is that extra $50K not income? Because you sunk it in losing investment? Why then aren’t gambling debts tax deductible?

He also announced an FHASecure plan, which apparently does not require congressional approval, that according to the FHA “will allow families with strong credit histories who had been making timely mortgage payments before their loans reset ‘but are now in default’ to qualify for refinancing.”

So they get to make puny $300 mortgage payments for 3 years but once it’s time to pay the piper for their negative-amortization ways, we need to use MY tax dollars to let Joni and Chachi keep their $400,000 McMansion?

I bought what the house I could afford, with a mortgage I can actually pay. As a 22-year old, even I realized that a 3-1 or 5-1 ARM was retarded if you can’t make the higher payments. I have zero sympathy for the idiots who took out subprime mortgages or the institutions who give them.

We have very generous foreclosure and bankruptcy laws in this country. If you screw your own financial pooch, you take the hit and move on. That’s the price you pay for being stupid.
