Que Chimbo

November 29th, 2006 by Kyle

It took 18 months, but it finally happened. I had a crappy day at work. Just too many problems without easy answers. Not challenging enough to be rewarding, just enough to be annoying.

For once, when I’m working on the CJ line, I’d like not to be treated like I just ran over the family dog with my car..just once. Stop sucking CJ guys, stop sucking right now. I don’t care what you’ve gotten away with before, I’m not buying off on crap. Of course you are lying, no self-respecting engineer would ever let you do that. Don’t roll you’re eyes at me, I didn’t put the hole in the side of the airplane, you did.

I hate today, so I’m going to bed.

“I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down”

November 27th, 2006 by Kyle

bitter-sweet indeed.

I was a bit confused. How are you supposed to feel when your alma mater’s football team loses to the arch-rival in the last game of the season to essentially eliminate their chance for a bowl appearance. And then your alma mater’s basketball team beats the number 1 team in the nation, the defending national champions with it’s 5 returning starters and insane reverence in the press?

Well, the big win happened after the big loss, and I got to watch, and I got to scream at my television with one of my bestest good friends. So I think I going to feel pretty good.

Thanksgiving exists soley for the purpose of left-over turkey sandwiches. No one will convince me otherwise.

This makes it the greatest holiday ever.

That was mistake.

I watched the latest episode of “Heroes” on NBC Rewind last night before going to be. It was a really good spooky quasi-conclusion episode. Anyway, I was dreaming about the top of people’s heads getting sliced open while they’re still alive by that Sylar’s telekinetic powers. It gave the jibbleys, even in my dream…creepy.

BTW, if you missed this weeks episode of “Heroes” or “Studio 60″ you can view the entire thing online at NBC rewind here and here, which absolutely rules for 2nd shifters like me.

Here’s to hoping for a spidey-sense.

November 21st, 2006 by Kyle

I’ve got a wicked funky rash on my back. I think I got bit by a poisonous spider or something. I probably should go see the doctor, but instead I’m going to go to sleep and hope that I wake up with superpowers.

11/22 Update: Oh Crap, it’s growing.

11/23 Update: Double Crap, now it aches, itches, and slightly pains me.

Okay its official.

November 19th, 2006 by Kyle

I suppose, “technically” I moved into my house at the end of July. But over the weekend I bought popcorn for a boy scout fund raiser and grossly overpaid some neighborhood middle school kids to rake my lawn. To top it off, I finally got new address labels and checks with the new address on them. No remnants of renter-Kyle are left, well except for on the University Alumni “give me money” mailing list.

You’ll never take me alive, pleasant-voiced guilt-trip lady! Muah ha ha ha!

Live from Studio 60…

November 14th, 2006 by Kyle

Okay is it just me, or is Sorkin pushing on it a little hard? I like the aggressive content; I like the thought provoking banter. But it even feels like a heavy-handed civics lecture to me, and I love civics lectures.

Take the latest offering “Nevada Day”

Through out the entire 2-part episode, Matt and Harriet yell at each other because Harriet’s religion has a pretty straight forward mandate on the ungodliness of gay marriage. I’m okay with the premise, the arguments, and the argumentative nature of the discussion, but it just isn’t presented as well as it could be. The dialog seemed more comfortable coming from talking heads on cable news, not a 9 o’clock drama on NBC.

Where’s the nuance? Where’s the dry humor and intellectual switchbacks? I want to be taken for a ride, that’s part of the reason why I tune in every week, but the real reason? I want to be entertained and captivated. I hate canned laughter and sitcom punch lines you can see coming a mile away. I don’t care about hookers getting strangled, how some rich white guy might get away with murder, or that Mr. Nelson’s pre-op checkup revealed an abnormal hemoglobin level. And for that matter I don’t even care about whether or not your late-night sketch comedy show gets canceled.

I want to hear, see, and absorb great stories that provoke thoughts and make me consider notions I hadn’t ever considered before. THAT is what it’s about; stories that change the way people experience their lives. To achieve that with fiction is beautiful.

Alright you Amazon sons of bitches!

November 11th, 2006 by Kyle

I pre-ordered Season 7 of the West Wing. It was released on the 7th, its now 11th and you still haven’t shipped it. I’m a patient fellow, but if you don’t send me the final season to complete the series, I’m gonna fly to your corporate headquarters and pimp-slap your CEO to Neptune!

Quite the precedent, it is.

November 10th, 2006 by Kyle

Rumsfeld may get charged for “War Crimes”…in Germany?

Deferring the absurd and not addressing the merits of the charge. I’ve got one GIGANTIC objection:

I know you, me, and the majority of the country are mad as hell at Rumsfeld, we ought not to embrace this German Lawsuit. I’m very skeptical of their claim of “universal jurisdiction.” It’s very, very dangerous precedent, allowing the laws of one country to govern the actions of another. Also, despite the heavy stench of political revenge, the whole concept of a German court trying an American citizen for acts occurring in Iraq strikes me as ironic at best, and hypocritical at worst.

If there is anything more ostentatious than singularly acting as the world’s police force, it’s singularly acting as its judge and jury.
