Now that’s the Kansas I know and love.

October 30th, 2006 by Kyle

It was 77 degrees today. I spent all my free time out working in the yard in shorts and a t-shirt.

It’s 27 degrees now.

50 degrees drop in 10 hours. I’d like to say I was surprised, but I’ve seen worse.

Just like the first time…only not.

October 29th, 2006 by Kyle

For reason’s passing my feeble understanding, Studio 60 isn’t going to be on this Monday.
Yeah, I’m pretty peeved too. Let it all out big fella, strong men cry too; there, there. We can wash away our sorrow by watching lasts week’s episode again.

Upgrades?

October 28th, 2006 by Kyle

I’m dorking around a little bit with the website. Obviously, the theme has changed, I just pulled it from another website. So we’re dealing with somebody else’s fancy work for now. I imagine eventually I’ll hand code one on my own, but for now I’m lazy.

I’m also playing with the different Plugins available for WordPress. I had to go put rubber bands around my ankles, because they totally rocked by socks off. Seriously, I love WordPress. So many options, so much power….Muah ha ha ha!

I’m nothing if not wasted potential

October 26th, 2006 by Kyle

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my personal development. I’ve been at my job for almost a year and a half now. While I don’t think I’ve mastered it, but I don’t feel like I’m learning much anymore. Certainly, the longer you do this job, the more you see, the simpler and faster and better you’re repair design become. But really, that’s just the wisdom of experience, and I’m way too young to get satisfaction out of that.

Mostly I want more. I look at broken airplanes, but I’m thinking about how stupid it was for Textron to buy Overwatch Systems, or how the XLS+ is an expensive waste of the FAA’s time, or wondering just how far the resale value of an Eclipse 500 will fall when there are a dozen bankrupt air-taxi companies with 100 airplanes each to sell.

My job is looking at bent sheet metal. But I think about big-picture items, how to put aircraft together better, lighter, fastener, cheaper, safer. I question whether or not it’s actually wise to have an entire management structure consisting of 51-62 year olds. I think about strategic partnerships for Cessna and which airplane company has the next big thing. what sector of the economy is overprice, underpriced, who is broken and ready for a rebound, and who is broken and just doesn’t know it yet.

It’s serious strategic thought, and I feel I’m just wasting it on rivet spacing.

Yes, I’m a sucker for good television.

October 24th, 2006 by Kyle

Studio 60
It’s absolutely sick how good Aaron Sorkin is. Nowhere else on television will you find a guaranteed chill moment every week. EVERY WEEK! I love the sense of humor too. It’s pretty rare to find a show that can make you burst out laughing without a live studio audience or laughter from a can. Quick wit; pure, diverse, and deep characters; plot and sub-plot; anticipation and payoff; in no other place in no other medium will you find story of this quality. I’ve got myself a quality man-crush on Aaron Sorkin and I don’t care who knows about it.

Heroes
NBC, you are my hero. Maybe you can’t teleport, time travel, fly, or paint the future in a heroin induced daze, but all be damned if you didn’t find and green light two great shows in the same season. You’ve got me, I’m hooked. I only hope you don’t fly off the deep end like those jerks at ABC did with both Alias and Lost. Heroes is a great show right now, so stick with the science and don’t go mythological on us.

You’ve made a reason to look foward to Mondays, good job.

And I love your NBC Rewind, that way even us 2nd shifters can catch the goodness of prime-time TV.

I’ve lost my taste for football.

October 23rd, 2006 by Kyle

It’s all anybody wants to talk about at the office. How did K-state, KU, or the Chiefs do over the weekend? They all suck, but yet it gets talked about with an odd passion. No real hope of a bowl game or the playoffs. And still we talk about football.

There was a fantastic game on last night, but it was only the 102nd World Series, so obviously it was unworthy of watching. 41-year old journeyman pitcher Kenny Rodgers pitching out of his gourd, extended his playoff scoreless inning streak to 23, only to have his beauty of a 2-hitter nearly ruined by closer Todd Jones and a confluence of events that make you wonder why exactly this guy is the closer for a World Series caliber team.

Major League Baseball…I live for this.

Word Press is in the Hizz-ouse!

October 22nd, 2006 by Kyle

TOG is back after some funky Internet issues both on the server-side and the home front. Rest assured noble readers, I am not dead, and you’ve addiction for at quick-fix of the TOG is at hand.

As you can see, finally, oh finally, we’ve made the transition to WordPress. An awesome new blogging software if ever there was one. Obviously, the theme is standard and boring, but I shall pimp this baby out shortly.

In an entirely unrelated note, it occurs to me that my consistent use of urban slang (i.e. hizz-house, pimp out) might not be coming of as ironic in text. It’s supposed to be ironic, I swear. The half-assed urban slang sounds ridiculous coming from anyone, even-more-so from a well-educated whitey from Kansas. Hence the irony.
